Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

You've now been in the Junior School for a year and have settled in beautifully. Now it's time to focus on becoming increasingly independent and challenging yourselves in all areas of the curriculum.

In English, we will be learning how to write different text types in a variety of styles; considering who our audience is. We will also be learning more complex grammar and focusing on being able to identify our own mistakes to move our learning forward. Every child has personal targets which they work on to move their car up the track to success.

In maths, we have a large curriculum to cover with a wonderful mix of practical activities to support understanding. In Year 4, children become increasingly skilled at reasoning and being able to explain and prove their understanding of mathematical concepts.

There is constant fun to be had across our foundation subjects. Whether we're digging through poo, to discover what Anglo Saxons ate, or pond dipping to learn about habitats - we will have a great time learning through practical activities. We also get very creative through the year making: clay pots, working clocks, paintings inspired by famous artists, wooden photo frames and lots more.

Our Topics across the Year are:

Term 1 and 2: Anglo Saxons and Vikings (History focus)

Term 3 and 4: France - our close neighbour (Geography focus)

Term 5 and 6: The Tudors (History and Geography)

Our Science Topics:

Electricity, Teeth and Digestion, Sound, Living things and their habitats, Changing States. We also do a STEAM project in the Summer term on floatation, when parents will be invited to join us to design and make floating platforms.

Some trips and enrichment activities in Year 4:

Visiting Viking workshop, Christmas unwrapped at St Peter's Church, French Day, trip to Braywick Nature Centre, trip to Hampton Court, Visit to 3 Discovery Centre, Tudor Day...

We aim to make every single day in Year 4 both challenging and exciting so that together, we learn while having fun.

Don't forget:

PE kits should be in school from Monday to Friday. Make sure everything is labelled.

Your reading book and planner must come to school with you everyday and go home every evening.

Try to read everyday.

Learn your times tables and your spellings.

Spellings tests are on Monday.

Make sure you bring a labeled water bottle everyday.

When it gets cold, please bring your coat everyday and if you want gloves, scarf...
