FPJS Virtual Tour and Introduction to Furze Platt Primary Federation

In September 2019, Furze Platt Infant School and Furze Platt Junior School joined to form Furze Platt Primary Federation. Whilst keeping each school's own identity and name, the Federation allowed these two strong schools, to work even closer together.

Our SuperPoWeR values

Our staff, governors and children helped choose the three values that all of us wanted to focus on and be part of.

Firstly, we felt that all of our community needed to experience a love for learning or an interest in their lives; helping everyone experience the joy of being immersed in something they like whilst also exploring new and exciting activities and opportunities. Our value of PASSION was decided upon to ensure that we reflect on what we love to do, what ignites that flame and how we can be open to exploring new things.

We all know the importance of understanding our own WELLBEING, how to support ourselves, how to support others and how to recognise signs of wellbeing being negatively affected. The Top Ten most in demand skills for future employment frequently includes, high up on the list, Emotional Intelligence yet this is not directly taught in school curriculums. At FPPF it is because we recognise that children, and adults, only learn effectively if their wellbeing is prioritised and they feel happy and safe. At the end of the day, being emotionally literate with strong wellbeing and resilience will be vital at every new stage of a child’s educational journey and beyond.

Whilst our final value is a value that is part of many schools around the country, there is a very valid reason for that. RESPECT is taught but is also part of an establishments or communities’ ethos and beliefs. At FPPF we respect ourselves, each other, our school, our community and our wider world. We learn how to do this and we celebrate our members of our community that show respect.

The key aims of our Federation are:

  • To improve the journey and provision for the children from Reception through to the end of Year 6
  • To provide staff with the opportunity to work and experience school life outside of their Key Stage
  • To provide continuity of approaches for children, staff and families
  • Ensure that children can move from FPIS to FPJS at the end of Year 2
  • To provide a progressive curriculum and pedagogical approach to learning

Our structure:

FPPF has one Leadership team and one Governing Body that both operate over both schools. This strategic oversight by both bodies further increases the continuity and ability to support the children through all seven years of their time at FPPF.

Our Federation Leadership team includes our Executive Headteacher (Mike Wallace), our two Heads of School (Jane Indge at Furze Platt Infant School and Anna Clark at Furze Platt Junior School) and our Inclusion Manager (Rachel Endacott). Together, the Federation Leadership Team ensure the strategic direction of the federation.

What it means for our children and families

Being part of FPPF is akin to being part of a large, three form primary school but with each of our schools still keeping their own identity. Best of both worlds and a rarity in the education system.

Our children get:

  • A shared site with amazing facilities and a feel of a primary school
  • Everything that is special and unique about Furze Platt Infant and Junior Schools
  • Staff that are key stage specialists but can also be part of every child’s journey from starting reception to the end of year 6. Creating support and familiarity for our children through the seven years and enhancing the sense of belonging to FPPF
  • The experience of being a Furze Platt pupil without the need to move to another site part way through the primary years

Our families get:

  • Consistent school wide systems, communication, INSET days and focus days from both schools
  • An easy, prioritised, transition from infant to junior school
  • Being part of our school community along with the FPSA and school led events and celebrations
  • To form positive home/school relationships with staff for the full seven years

Furze Platt Primary Federation is one big family. We are community centred schools and proud of our settings, our children, our families, our staff and our provision. We love welcoming guests and visitors to our schools so please do get in touch.
