Homework at FPJS
It is always difficult to get the homework balance right for the children. We are also aware that parents have different views regarding the setting or and the amount of homework set. At FPJS, we have revised the way in which we set homework in order to make homework relevant to the child's learning, interesting and also celebrated in school.
We set weekly homework in all year groups. This focuses on curriculum expectation within Grammar, Punctuation, Reading and Maths.
Children may also be given a Homework project grid or 'extra challenges' that link to their termly topic. Children are rewarded with extra House Points for completing these additional homework tasks.
Children are also set weekly Spellings and also we expect children to read at home daily and record their reading in the school log.
FPJS also subscribes to Complete Maths, Bedrock Learning, TT-Rockstars and SeeSaw which all provide additional activities that children can access at home. All pupils have logins and passwords for these sites.
Home Learning
We have put together a Home Learning Grid to support children who may be working at home rather than in school.
The grid is organised into tabs for each year group. Within each tab, you will find a range of links that support the curriculum being taught in school. These links include lessons and activities that children can complete at home, with guidance provided to help them work as independently as possible. Children should upload one piece of work each day to Seesaw. The class teacher can then respond to this work.
If your child is finding the work from their current year group challenging, they are very welcome to access activities from a previous year group. We have also included a separate tab with links from KS1, should children need to revisit earlier learning.
Please be aware that when some links are clicked, they may take your child to a video or resource labelled as a different year group (for example, a Year 4 link may open a Year 3 presentation). This is completely fine, and there is no need to worry. All links have been carefully chosen to align with our curriculum at FPJS and to best support the learning objectives.
In addition to the Home Learning Grid, children should continue to be active. Current government guidance recommends that children aged 7–11 years take part in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. This can include activities such as walking, cycling, playing games, sports, dancing, or active play at home.
Children can also use MyLogin to access:
Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)
Bedrock
EdShed
Some children will also have access to Literacy Gold or Oxford Owls, which will further support their reading and learning at home.
If your child needs any materials or resources to complete a lesson, please contact the school and we will be happy to help.
